Josh Ruggs’s work takes on a satirical view of social, political and cultural issues and ideas. He speaks to the American dream through painting by combining the cults of celebrities, comic aesthetics and music heroes. His work portrays powerful projective narratives using familiar visual signs and icons. While arranging them into explosively layered paintings, Joshua uses a large arsenal of mediums - from aerosol, acrylic, oil sticks and ink to just about anything he can get his hands on that gives life and form to his style.
