"When I have an idea, I can't sit still until I've realised it."
Amsterdam-based artist Maarten Léon describes his work as an ode to growing up, an emotional self-reflection and an exploration of unfamiliar worlds of thought. Vintage motifs such as old advertising campaigns often bring with them precisely the absurdity that Maarten appreciates in order to assemble new visual worlds from multimedia snippets. Oscillating between surrealism and minimalism, he gets rid of everything that is superfluous in order to give colours and shapes even more power of speech. For Léon, a work is successful when it strikes the perfect balance between aesthetics and the story it is intended to tell.
