The Gently Unfurling Sneak

The Gently Unfurling Sneak

"We are lovers of surrealism, adventurous animals and inexplicable details."
The Gently Unfurling Sneak is a small design studio that started in 2006 when designer Anika Cook wanted to teach herself how to screen print in a Melbourne sharehouse. With a degree in Creative Arts under her belt, Anika experimented with different artistic techniques to avoid having to take on a "proper job". A few colour-splattered kitchen tables later, Anika and her production assistant Josie continue to work with a mix of different forms of expression, drawing inspiration from surrealism and Dadaism as well as Victorian-era lithographs. Garments, art prints and postcards are created from an eloquent mixture of illustration and collage. The screen printing is now done for her by professionals, but Anika's work, which she believes must be "either beautiful, funny or strange - or all of the above", has lost none of its surreal humour and narrative expressiveness.
