"Nature is the ultimate."
Heinrich Neuy, born in 1911 on the Lower Rhine, was a German painter, furniture designer and architect. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter and attending the School of Arts and Crafts in Krefeld, he studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau from 1930 to 1932 and counted no less than Wassily Kandinsky, Josef Albers, Lilly Reich and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe among his teachers. Drawings and sketches made during his time as a prisoner of war in the USA and England were later incorporated into his work. After the war, Neuy resumed his father's carpentry business. It was not until the 1960s that he began to exhibit his paintings in Germany and internationally. After an absence of 62 years, he returned to the Bauhaus in Dessau in 1994 with a solo exhibition. Neuy, who is now known as "the youngest Bauhaus artist", died in 2003 in his home town of Steinfurt. In 2011, the Heinrich Neuy Bauhaus Museum was opened in Steinfurt, which exhibits works by Neuy and other Bauhaus artists. The works available at JUNIQE were created between 1946 and 1996.
