Larissa van der Laan is a scientist and artist who creates work inspired by her travels, which informs the methods she uses and the images she chooses to create. She draws on her background as a glaciologist and all-round adventurer to depict landscapes, and her skills as a painter and illustrator to use geometry and watercolours as a method of creating sensuality and intimacy. Her figurative work, which often includes human bodies at close quarters, uses colour and shading to emphasise the physicality of her subjects. Larissa van der Laan lives and works in the Netherlands.
