"When people look at my artwork, I want to give them a reflection of their own feelings, moments from the past or a wish for the future."
Kaethe Butcher is a German artist from Leipzig. After completing a BA in Fashion Design in Berlin and an MA in Illustration at UAL in London, she now lives and works as an illustrator back in her hometown of Leipzig.
Inspired by Art Nouveau and the seductive works of Egon Schiele, women and their relationships with each other are increasingly becoming the subject of Kaethe's work. For her signature style, erotic, provocative, passionate lines, she mainly uses graphite pencils. Her depictions of sexuality, intimacy and femininity testify to strength and fearlessness, while at the same time they are characterised by a touch of vulnerability that inevitably prompts the viewer to reflect.
