La maja desnuda is one of Francisco de Goya's most famous works. The painting is a commissioned work painted before 1800, in a period between 1790 and 1800, the date of the first documented reference to this work.[1] It later formed a pair with The Clothed Maja, dated between 1800 and 1808,[2] probably at the request of Manuel Godoy, as it is recorded that they formed part of a cabinet in his house.
