"Wholes – composed from sound and image"
Klaus Damm (1949–2026) was a composer and sound-and-image artist. The integration of music, visual art and language in a wide range of forms was at the heart of his artistic work. He studied composition at the Folkwang University in Essen; in 1978, he became the first composer to receive the Folkwang Prize. With his ‘visiography’ format, he developed his own approach to image composition. He used a complex montage technique to distil his photographic source material down to its emotional and artistic essence. The visiographies in this shop are taken from his image series created between 2008 and 2026. Klaus Damm died in Essen in August 2026. The shop is run by his family. The signature is part of each print.
